What can I expect during the initial appointment?
During our first session, the first few minutes will help establish a level of comfort and build trust. We will review some paperwork and discuss confidentiality. Then, the remainder of our first session will be spent collecting a history and talking about your concerns and the changes you would like to see occur in your life. As we conclude, we will review goals and decide how often to schedule appointments to accomplish the goals you set.
How long does therapy last?
This varies from person to person. Counselling doesn’t need to last for months or years and can be determined by your needs. Some clients find benefit in 3-6 sessions and feel they have what they need to thrive, others may need 8-10 sessions. Depending on your needs, after the initial goals are accomplished, we can move to scheduling appointments on an as needed basis. We will assess your goals together and determine your schedule of appointments from there.
Do you accept insurance?
Though I do not direct bill to specific insurance companies, most plans offer coverage for counselling/therapy. It is your responsibility to check to see what your insurance plan covers, and the credentials required for reimbursement. I have a masters degree in counselling and am certified through the Canadian Counselling and Psychotherapy Association. You will receive a receipt after payment is made which can be submitted to your insurance company for reimbursement.
What forms of payment do you accept?
Etransfer, cash, or cheque.
What is your cancellation policy?
I kindly request 48 hours notice to allow opportunity for someone else to utilize the appointment time. Many of my clients have experienced the benefit of receiving a short notice appointment, this is only possible if enough notice is given for me to accommodate. I require 24 hours notice when changing or cancelling an appointment to avoid a cancellation fee. When less than 24 hours notice is given, half the fee will be due before scheduling the next appointment. Exceptions will be made for illness and emergent situations. If 3 consecutive appointments are cancelled, rescheduled, or missed, payment will then be required at the time of scheduling to secure your appointment.
